Zero Waste Education Project
In 2020, the RDN partnered with Nanaimo-Ladysmith (NLPS) and the Qualicum School District (SD 69) to create the Zero Waste Education Pilot Project, which focused on climate change, sustainability, and environmental stewardship in schools around our region. The project enables schools the ability to develop creative and hands-on learning opportunities, including outdoor lessons and ways to care for the land. Following the success of the pilot project, the RDN committed to a three-year expansion, now known as the Zero Waste Education Project. The RDN has allocated funding for NLPS and SD 69 until 2026. This is currently supporting 11 schools throughout the region in their zero waste education initiatives.
