Home Energy Assessment Rebate
Regional District of Nanaimo Electoral Area residents who complete and initial or follow-up EnerGuide home evaluation are eligible for the Home Energy Assessment Rebate.
An EnerGuide Home Energy Assessment helps you identify where energy is used in your home and what energy efficiency upgrades make the most sense for you. These assessments are completed by registered Energy Advisors.
All residents can check out funding through the Provincial CleanBC Better Homes Program. See the resources section below for more information.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the Home Energy Assessment Rebate, you must:
- Be located in an RDN Electoral Area
- Complete an EnerGuide home evaluation with a certified energy advisor that is registered with CleanBC
Residents of Nanaimo should apply directly to the City’s Home Energy Assessment Rebate. The municipalities of Lantzville, Parksville and Qualicum Beach do not offer rebates for Home Energy Assessments currently.

Incentive Types
The total rebate payable by the RDN for pre- and post-upgrade EnerGuide home evaluations is $350 per household.
There are two Home Energy Assessment incentives available to RDN Electoral Area residents.
Initial Home Energy Assessment Incentive
A $150 incentive is available to residents who have an initial Home Energy Assessment conducted by a certified energy advisor. The completed application must be submitted to the RDN within 12 months of the date shown on the receipt.
To apply, you will need to provide:
- The first page of the initial Home Energy Assessment report, showing the EnerGuide rating
- Receipt for the initial Home Energy Assessment
Follow-up Home Energy Assessment Incentive
Follow-up assessments are eligible for $10 per 5 GJ per year reduction on the EnerGuide rating scale, to a maximum of $200.
To apply, you will need to provide:
- The first page of the follow-up Home Energy Assessment report showing the new EnerGuide rating
- The first page of the Initial Home Energy Assessment (if not already submitted to the RDN)
- Receipt for the follow-up Home Energy Assessment
Application Process
To qualify and apply for either incentive program, you should:
1. Complete and initial or follow-up EnerGuide home evaluation with a NRCan-certified energy advisors
2. Collect the required documents, listed above
3. Apply online, or by email or in-person to the RDN

Other Ways to Apply
Submissions can be made to the Regional District of Nanaimo by email, mail or in person. Our office is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, excluding statutory holidays.
