Energy & Sustainability

The Energy and Sustainability Department oversees a range of programs and initiatives, including:

We also collaborate with the Climate Action Technical Advisory Committee (CATAC), which provides advice and recommendations to the RDN Board on potential local impacts of global climate change. In addition,  we engage with residents through community outreach and volunteer opportunities focused on climate action and environmental protection.

The Regional District of Nanaimo has several long-term climate and environmental goals. The Energy and Sustainability department plays an important role in achieving these goals. Our sustainability work includes a focus on:

  • Natural asset management
  • Climate adaptation and mitigation
  • Climate-adaptive homes
  • Wildfire Resilience
  • Water conservation

Taking Action in Our Region

In alignment with the RDN Board's 2023-2026 Strategic Plan, we create and implement policies and programs that address climate change. Encouraging climate action and engagement within our community is also a priority.
