Energy & Sustainability

The Energy and Sustainability Department oversees a range of programs and initiatives designed to benefit our residents. Our commitment to sustainability can be seen through programs such as Green Building Incentives and Acting for Climate Together, as well as the implementation of the Corporate Carbon Neutral 2032 Plan. We also collaborate with the Climate Action Technical Advisory Committee (CATAC), which provides advice and recommendations to the RDN Board on potential local impacts of global climate change. Furthermore, we actively engage with residents through community outreach and volunteer opportunities focused on climate action and environmental protection.

As the Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) moves towards a low-carbon future, the Energy and Sustainability department plays an important role working on broader sustainability issues via our work on natural asset management, water conservation and climate adaptation.

Taking Action in Our Region

In alignment with the RDN Board's 2023-2026 Strategic Plan, we are committed to creating and implementing innovative policies and programs within our organization and across the region that address climate change. Fostering a sense of climate action and engagement within our community is also a priority.
