Regional Board
The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) is governed by a Board of Directors. The RDN Board is made up of 19 elected Directors, each representing a city, town, district, or Electoral Area in the Regional District:
- Eight members represent the City of Nanaimo
- Two members represent the City of Parksville
- One member represents the Town of Qualicum Beach
- One member represents the District of Lantzville
- One member represents each of the seven Electoral Areas.
The RDN Board has several standing and advisory committees, and Board members also direct a variety of additional committees for key services throughout the region – for more information, please visit the Committees page.
The Board and its Standing Committees meet regularly to provide oversight of the region’s operations, enact local bylaws and set public policy. More information about the Board and its committees can be found in "Regional District of Nanaimo Board Procedure Bylaw No. 1862, 2022".
Elections to the RDN Board occur every four years during province-wide local government elections. Stuart McLean, Electoral Area H, is the RDN Board Chair, and Lauren Melanson, Electoral Area C, is the Vice-Chair.
