Community Grants

The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) provides community grant funding to assist registered non-profit organizations in providing social programs and services for a local community or provide a regional benefit 

The organization must provide a social enrichment service and demonstrate that the service fills a need in the community. Organizations must demonstrate a financial need and complete an application form to be approved for funding. Continuing support should not be anticipated. 

The Community Grants Committee is composed of three RDN directors from the RDN Board who meet one time per year, in the spring, to evaluate applications and provide recommendations to the RDN Board. 

Eligibility  

Community grants are available for the following general uses:  

  • requests showing a significant benefit to the RDN or a specific area within the RDN including, but not limited to: 
    • the promotion of volunteer participation and citizen involvement 
    • the use of new approaches and techniques in the solution of community needs 
    • activities/programs which are accessible to a large portion of the community’s residents, such as special events 
  • start-up costs for new organizations or new programs 
  • one-time costs for a specific program or project such as supplies or equipment 
  • volunteer training 
  • capital costs for equipment or improvements to organization owned facilities 

To be eligible for grant funding, and organization must:  

  • be a registered non-profit organization 
  • be a local organization within the Regional District of Nanaimo 
  • demonstrate that the grant request is for a specific service or use, and will provide a social enrichment service to the community 
  • demonstrate that the service provided fills a need in the community

To apply for a Community Grant, please complete the application form:  

In addition to completing the application form, you must also provide the following information in your application package:  

  • current year budget 
  • full financial statements for your operation 
  • details regarding the specific use for the grant funds requested, and a breakdown of all expenses for the use of the grant 
  • information regarding other sources of funding and other grant applications that have been made

Application deadline:

Grant applications are due the last Friday in April each year.
