ABOUT THE ROLE
The Regional District of Nanaimo has an employment opportunity for a Casual Lifeguard/Instructor Level II at the Ravensong Aquatic Centre in Qualicum Beach.

The successful candidate will assist in the creation, planning, organization, implementation and evaluation of aquatic programs and special events. Duties include leading and instructing a variety water-based exercise classes (i.e., Aquafit), enforcing pool rules and pool safety for the public, routine preventative maintenance and safety checks, implementation of the facility’s emergency response program, providing first aid services and supporting office staff.

QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications include high school graduation, with one (1) to three (3) years of pool/aquatic related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Applicants must possess and maintain the following certifications: 

  • National Lifeguard Award (Pool Option)
  • Lifesaving Society (Swim for Life) Instructor Certification
  • CPR Certification - Basic Rescuer or CPR “C” & AED
  • Recognized First Aid Certification/WorkSafeBC Equivalency. 
  • And any one of the following: Lifesaving Instructor, Aquafit Certification (BCRPA Aquafit, CALA Aquafit Instructor), National Lifeguard Service Instructor, Lifesaving Learn to Swim Instructor, or First Aid Instructor.

Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills. General knowledge of office skills including keyboarding, word processing and knowledge of computer applications are also required.

POSITION DETAILS
This is a casual Union position. Hours of work vary and evening and weekend work will be required. The (2025) rate of pay is $23.52 for Level 1 and $28.81 per hour for Level 2. As a casual employee you will also receive an additional 10.77% in lieu of benefits including vacation and statutory holidays.

Recreation Receptionist

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Regional District of Nanaimo is seeking casual Recreation Receptionists to join the Recreation and Parks Department. This is a public facing position focused on assisting the public in accessing recreation programs, facilities, events, and services. This position is required to work at both the Ravensong Aquatic Centre in Qualicum Beach and Oceanside Place Arena in Parksville.

QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma (grade 12) plus one (1) to twelve (12) months prior job-related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Keyboarding, word processing, switchboard and basic office equipment experience is required, and experience working with ActiveNet or other recreation registration software is an asset. Current First Aid Level 1 certification is a requirement.

POSITION DETAILS
This is a casual Union Position with varied hours of work including evenings and weekends. The (2025) rate of pay is $31.66 to $33.33 per hour, plus 10.77% in lieu of benefits including vacation and statutory holidays.

Project Engineer

ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Manager, Capital Project Delivery, the Project Engineer is responsible for managing capital projects within the RDN. Projects include the planning, design, and construction of capital infrastructure projects, including wastewater treatment facilities, utilities, fire protection facilities, and others.  This position will liaise with administrative and operational staff, other government agencies, architects, building contractors, consultants, private utility companies and the public.

QUALIFLICATIONS
The successful candidate brings strong communication and relationship-building skills, demonstrates accountability and project ownership, and shows a consistent commitment to health and safety work practices.  The preferred candidate will hold a Civil Engineering degree and will be registered as a Professional Engineer (PEng) with Engineers Geoscientists British Columbia with six (6) years experience in design, construction, and project management of water/wastewater or industrial projects.  Experience in an operating facility and local government organization, combined with a certificate in project management, is considered an asset.  An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Possession of a valid Class 5 Driver’s License is required.

POSITION DETAILS
The salary for this position is $119,593 - $137,236 annually and is supplemented by a competitive total compensation plan.
