Fossil Fuel to Heat Pump Rebate

Making the switch from fossil fuel heating (i.e., natural gas, oil, or propane) to a heat pump is beneficial, both environmentally and economically. Electoral Area residents in the RDN who make the transition from fossil fuel heating to an electric heat pump and meet program conditions are eligible for the Fossil Fuel to Heat Pump rebate.

This rebate is grant-funded from the LGCAP fund, which supports a range of climate-related initiatives, including funding programs designed to assist residents in adapting to climate change. Click here to find out more about this grant.

Eligibility

  • Residence must be located in an RDN Electoral Area (homeowners in Nanaimo, Lantzville, Parksville and Qualicum Beach do not qualify for this rebate)
  • Property must be an eligible home type and must primarily be heated by oil. Replacement of broken oil heating equipment is not eligible for this program
  • Eligible heat pumps must be found on the CleanBC Better Homesā€™ Qualifying Products List, and installed by a registered contractor listed with CleanBC Better Homes
  • Old and back-up systems powered by fossil fuels must be fully removed (must be indicated on invoice)Ā 
  • Applications are accepted from January 1, 2024, through December 15, 2024

Required Documents

  • digital scan/copy of the invoice clearly showing:
    • the purchase andĀ installation of anĀ eligible heat pump,Ā along with make/model of unit
    • the disposal of the existing system has been complete
    • the invoice is paid
