RDN News Release - Ravensong Aquatic Centre Expansion Project Update

At meetings held on October 8 and October 22, 2024, the Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) Board approved a series of resolutions to conduct a referendum to seek the approval of eligible electors to borrow up to $30 million to finance the Ravensong Aquatic Centre (RAC) expansion. The total estimated project cost of $36.4 million would be financed through a combination of long-term borrowing, capital reserves and operating funds. The spring 2025 referendum date will be set and announced in early 2025. Should the borrowing be approved, construction is planned to start in early 2026 and is estimated to take 24 to 28 months.
