Emergency Alert - Mt. Hayes Wildfire Update - Aug 22 Evening

B.C. Wildfire Service has confirmed this evening that the Mt. Hayes wildfire is being held. A fire that is being held has received sufficient suppression action that it is not likely to spread further under forecasted conditions. There will be smoke visible throughout the week as the fire is still burning within the perimeter. Crews are continuing to work the entire perimeter of the fire.

The joint Evacuation Alert issued on August 20, 2021 by the Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) and the Cowichan Valley Regional District for addresses on Takala Road, David Road and Ivey Road remains in place at this time.

We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as information is available. For urgent public inquiries, please contact the after-hours phone line by dialing 250-390-4111 and selecting option #1. The RDN answering service will page the Emergency Operations Centre.
