B.C. Wildfire Service has reported this morning that significant portions of the Mt. Hayes fire have burned to control lines and are now contained. While it continues to be classified as out of control, this fire has not grown significantly since the morning of August 20.
The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) issued a joint Evacuation Alert on August 20, 2021 with the Cowichan Valley Regional District which remains in effect. No changes to this alert are anticipated today.
The RDN Call Centre is open on Sunday, August 22 until 12 p.m. to answer questions at 250-390-0940. For urgent public inquiries after 12 p.m. on Sunday, please contact the after-hours phone line by dialing 250-390-4111 and selecting option #1. The RDN answering service will page the Emergency Operations Centre.
