Housing Diversity
The residential lands within RDN Electoral Areas are largely characterized as low density suburban and rural, typically with no more than one or two houses per parcel. Encouraging a more diverse housing mix, through tiny homes, secondary suites, and manufactured homes, helps provide more options for home buyers and renters with a wider range of housing sizes and cost. Adding these smaller housing forms to traditional single-family residential areas is referred to as gentle density, which is intended to enable growth and change over time while maintaining a low-density neighbourhood feel.
The links below provide more information on tiny homes, secondary suites, and manufactured homes, including definitions and the requirements for constructing these forms of housing.
