Fires in RDN Parks

The only fires allowed in RDN parks and trails are those lit in designated fire pits at Horne Lake Regional Park and Descanso Bay Regional Park campgrounds. 

Fire in RDN Parks

A Campfire Ban is in effect at all RDN Campgrounds effective July 17, 2025.

   no smoking or vaping Smoking and vaping is prohibited in all RDN regional and community parks including trails at all times.

Important Notes:

  • The RDN encourages all users of parks and trails on Vancouver Island to use caution when in the forest, to be aware of fire hazards and to obey fire regulations. Never drop a burning cigarette or other burning substances in the forest.
  • To report a wildfire call 1-800-663-5555 or *5555 on most cellular networks.
  • See current fire information and fire bans at the Provincial Wildfire Management Branch
  • Park Use Regulation Bylaw 1399 regulates all activities within RDN community and regional parks including fire.
