The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) and the District of Lantzville have been awarded a $80,000 Community Emergency Preparedness Fund grant from the Government of British Columbia emergency operations centre (EOC) staff training and the purchase of EOC equipment. This joint grant with the District of Lantzville enables the RDN and the District to stay up to date with emergency management best practices and further strengthen resilience within our communities.
Staff training and EOC scenario exercises will be designed to strengthen response and recovery during emergency events. The exercises will be tailored to hazards identified in the RDN Hazard Risk and Vulnerability Assessment and will provide real scenario context for a comprehensive training experience. Emergency management staff at the District of Lantzville, City of Parksville, Town of Qualicum Beach, City of Nanaimo, Snuneymuxw First Nation, Snaw-Naw-As First Nation and Qualicum First Nation will be invited to participate. This collaborative, multi-jurisdictional training will help improve resiliency with our neighboring communities.
