RDN News Release - New Fire Engine for Nanoose Volunteer Fire Department

The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) is pleased to announce the arrival of a new fire engine for the Nanoose Volunteer Fire Department (NVFD). The Fort Garry Spartan MetroStar fire engine is a single-drive axle frontline fire truck that replaces the 1999 International, 316 fire engine which is at the end of its lifecycle. The new fire engine represents a substantial investment in community safety and protection. The approximate cost of $1.1 million is funded by $661,450 in Growing Community Funds and $438,550 from reserves. The fire truck is specially designed to meet the unique challenges of rural firefighting in the community. The truck provides the firefighters with a purpose-designed layout, enabling them to better respond to a variety of emergency and non-emergency incidents in the community.
