Alternative Approval Process - Little Qualicum River Regional Park Exchange Bylaw No. 1859, 2022.

Little Qualicum River Regional Park Land Exchange Approved

The Little Qualicum River Regional Park Land Exchange was approved through an Alternative Approval Process (AAP) that concluded at 4 p.m. on November 28, 2022.

The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) conducted the AAP in accordance with Section 86 of the Community Charter. Of an estimated 136,802 of eligible electors in the regional district, 3 valid elector response forms were received by the deadline in opposition to Bylaw No. 1859, 2022. Approval for the bylaw was obtained as less than 10 per cent of electors submitted an elector response form by the November 28, 2022, response deadline.

Pending approval, the RDN is proposing to adopt "Regional District of Nanaimo Little Qualicum River Regional Park Exchange Bylaw No. 1859, 2022." ("Bylaw No. 1859") to authorize the cancellation and removal of the regional park dedication of 2,649 m2 of the Little Qualicum River Regional Park, the exchange of 2,500 m2 of Little Qualicum River Regional Park for 2,700 m2 land to be used for regional park purposes and the dedication of 149 m2 of Little Qualicum River Regional Park as highway.

Before the RDN can proceed, affected electors must approve Bylaw No. 1859 through an Alternative Approval Process.

The Alternative Approval Process (AAP) begins on October 26, 2022, and ends at 4 p.m. on November 28, 2022. The Elector Response Form is available below.  Electors who are opposed to this initiative can sign and submit an Elector Response Form during the AAP period. Electors who are not opposed do not need to do anything. The deadline for submitting an Elector Response Form for this AAP is 4 p.m. on November 28, 2022.
