The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) is working to improve the steps needed to approve new development located near the coast. The proposed development permit area outlines requirements to reduce the impact of coastal flooding as early as possible, at the planning stage for new buildings and lots. The RDN Board gave two readings to the official community plan amendment bylaws for Electoral Areas A, E, G and H and Zoning Bylaw No. 500 in 2023, and is seeking public input on the proposed approach at five open houses and online. The feedback collected will be considered by staff and the RDN Board prior to the proposed bylaws going to third reading.
