Heavy precipitation has led to saturated and soggy field conditions for the sports fields at Rollo McClay Community Park, in Electoral Area B on Gabriola Island. Both upper and lower sports fields will be temporarily closed to prevent further damage and disrepair to the playing surfaces.
The field closures are effective immediately until approximately March 15, 2024, to allow grass to self-repair. Once the field has re-opened, this alert will be removed.
The Regional District of Nanaimo requests cooperation during the field closure to allow playing surfaces to recover.
