Emergency Alert - Mt. Hayes Wildfire Update - Aug 23 Morning

BC Wildfire Service has confirmed there has been no growth overnight and crews will continue to strengthen control lines and dig out areas where the fire is burning underground. There will be smoke visible throughout the week as the fire is still burning within the perimeter.

The joint Evacuation Alert issued on August 20, 2021 by the Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) and the Cowichan Valley Regional District for addresses on Takala Road, David Road and Ivey Road remains in place at this time.

We will continue to monitor the situation and provide a once-daily update or as the situation changes.

For urgent public inquiries, please contact the RDN at 250-390-4111. Outside of regular business hours, please dial the same number and then select option #1. The RDN answering service will page the Emergency Operations Centre.
