Fire Delays Haliburton Street Project

Progress on a joint City of Nanaimo–Regional District of Nanaimo project on Haliburton Street has been impeded by a fire within the excavation. The fire damaged the sanitary sewage forcemain that was being installed as part of the Chase River Pump Station and Haliburton Street Sanitary Sewer Forcemain Upgrades project. The project team is working to determine the impact to the project.

Installation of new pipe and full repaving of the road has been delayed for an unknown period of time, pending availability of replacement materials. Haliburton Street will be restored to traffic with a gravel surface as soon as it is feasible; this is currently anticipated to be before end of day on Friday, October 11.
