PUBLIC NOTICE is hereby given to electors of Electoral Areas A, B, C, D and E that a vote is to be conducted on Saturday, November 16, 2002 for the purpose of obtaining elector consent to the:

The question to be voted on by the electors on November 16, 2002 will read as follows:

Electoral Area A

"Are you in favour of the "Electoral Area A Port Theatre Contribution Local Service Area Bylaw No. 1318, 2002" which, if enacted, would establish an annual contribution of $13,900 to contribute towards the operation of the Port Theatre?"

"Are you in favour of the "Electoral Area B Port Theatre Contribution Local Service Area Bylaw No. 1319, 2002" which, if enacted, would establish an annual contribution of $13,915 to contribute towards the operation of the Port Theatre?"
Electoral Area C
"Are you in favour of the "Electoral Area C Port Theatre Contribution Local Service Area Bylaw No. 1320, 2002" which, if enacted, would establish an annual contribution of $13,820 to contribute towards the operation of Port Theatre?"
Electoral Area D
"Are you in favour of the "Electoral Area D Port Theatre Contribution Local Service Area Bylaw No. 1321, 2002" which, if enacted, would establish an annual contribution of $12,440 to contribute towards the operation of the Port Theatre?"

"Are you in favour of the "Electoral Area E Port Theatre Contribution Local Service Area Bylaw No. 1322, 2002" which, if enacted, would establish an annual contribution of $19,950 to contribute towards the operation of the Port Theatre?"
Bylaw Synopsis

Local Service
The Regional District of Nanaimo Board is asking the electorate whether it wishes to establish five separate Port Theatre Contribution local service areas to provide for an annual contribution towards the operation of the Port Theatre.

Maximum Requisition
Each Electoral Area has a fixed total amount it would contribute on an annual basis. The annual fixed amount for each Electoral Area is:

Based on the 2002 tax assessments, the rate needed to generate the annual amounts for each Electoral Area would be $0.029 per $1000 of assessed value. The following chart shows the impact on three different properties, assessed at $100,000, $200,000 and $300,000.
