ABOUT THE ROLE
The Regional District of Nanaimo is seeking enthusiastic and experienced Summer Leader 2s to deliver quality summer day camp experiences. Camp locations include the City of Parksville and Town of Qualicum Beach and Electoral Areas E, F and G.
Summer Leaders are responsible for planning and leading inclusive summer recreation programs for children (pre-school to youth) and work as part of a unit of front-line program staff focused on positive behaviour support, social guidance, co-regulation, and personal care for children of all abilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications include high school diploma, First Aid Certificate (Emergency, Standard or Emergency Childcare First Aid with CPR B or C), and minimum one (1) year of prior job-related experience working in a leadership role with children, preferably in recreation. Class 4 Driver’s License preferred for Summer Leader 2 positions. These positions require some physical work, working outside with exposure to all types of weather conditions, and accompanying children in the water when swimming.
POSITION DETAILS
These are temporary full-time and part-time (up to 40 hours per week) positions, from June 22, 2026 – September 4, 2026, with the possibility of ending early or of extension, based on the operational needs of the department. The (2026) rate of pay is $28.95 (Summer Leader 2) per hour, plus 12.4% in lieu of benefits including vacation and statutory holidays, or the uninterrupted continuation of their benefits package as provided for in the Collective Agreement between the Regional District of Nanaimo and the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 401.
Attendance of training scheduled Monday, June 22 - Friday June 26, 2026, is mandatory.

ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Senior Manager, Strategic Intergovernmental Services provides leadership in supporting the Regional District of Nanaimo’s (RDN) and the Nanaimo Regional Hospital District’s (NHRD) ongoing efforts to build and foster effective relationships with First Nations governments, other levels of government, and external partners and agencies to further organizational strategic objectives. The Senior Manager provides senior-level advice, information, and guidance to RDN and NRHD elected officials and staff on external agencies that impact RDN and NRHD priorities and services. This position leads a variety of intergovernmental projects and initiatives, directs corporate engagement and communications activities, and provides oversight on the RDN and NRHD strategic planning initiatives. The Senior Manager, Strategic Intergovernmental Services, serves as a member of the Executive Leadership Team and may attend meetings of the Management Leadership Group as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
This is an incredible opportunity for a detail-oriented intergovernmental services leader with strong relationship-building skills and political acumen to lead the Strategic Intergovernmental Services team and advance key initiatives at the RDN and NRHD. The preferred candidate will hold a graduate degree in social sciences, public administration, law, business administration, public policy, communications or a related field. The ideal candidate will have senior leadership experience in the public sector, combined with intergovernmental relations experience, including relationship-building and reconciliation work with Indigenous Peoples. The successful candidate will have experience working with elected officials, boards, committees and/or councils. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
POSITION DETAILS
The salary for this position is $165,570 - $189,995 annually and is supplemented by a competitive total compensation plan. This salary is based on the 2025 exempt management salary structure and does not reflect any potential annual adjustment for 2026 if approved by the Board.

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Regional District of Nanaimo has an employment opportunity for a Casual Lifeguard/Instructor Level II at the Ravensong Aquatic Centre in Qualicum Beach.
The successful candidate will assist in the creation, planning, organization, implementation and evaluation of aquatic programs and special events. Duties include leading and instructing a variety water-based exercise classes (i.e., Aquafit), enforcing pool rules and pool safety for the public, routine preventative maintenance and safety checks, implementation of the facility’s emergency response program, providing first aid services and supporting office staff.
QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications include high school graduation, with one (1) to three (3) years of pool/aquatic related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Applicants must possess and maintain the following certifications:
Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills. General knowledge of office skills including keyboarding, word processing and knowledge of computer applications are also required.
POSITION DETAILS
This is a casual Union position. Hours of work vary and evening and weekend work will be required. The (2026) rate of pay is $24.93 for Level 1 and $30.54 per hour for Level 2. As a casual employee you will also receive an additional 10.77% in lieu of benefits including vacation and statutory holidays.
