Welcome to the Electoral Area 'H' Village Planning Project

An Overview

The Electoral Area 'H' Village Planning Project was initiated in April 2008. This project provides an important opportunity for Electoral Area 'H' residents to influence how their village centres will evolve in the future.

The intended outcome of this project is to use sustainability principles to develop one or more village plans for Electoral Area 'H'. Reflecting the community's wishes, village plans will provide a higher level of detail and direction (than currently exists in the Electoral Area 'H' OCP) on how village centres in Area 'H' should grow and change over time. Village plans will be incorporated into the Area 'H' Official Community Plan as more detailed land use plans for areas designated as village centres.

This project started off considering three areas designated as villages centres in Electoral Area 'H' (Dunsmuir, Qualicum Bay and Bowser) as well as a potential village in Deep Bay. As of March 2009, the project is now focused on Bowser Village Centre with acknowledgement that the other areas will be addressed in the future.

As the first village planning project in the RDN, this project will serve as an important learning experience for both the RDN and Area 'H' residents. It is anticipated that the lessons learned from this project will be used to improve future village planning processes.
