Wastewater Open Houses

WHAT IS IT? A chance to tour the wastewater treatment facilities, learn about how treatment works, what initiatives we have planned. This is also a chance to have your questions answered. See below for more information.

WHO: This event is open to the public as well as community and business organizations, and is meant for all ages.

2013 Open Houses:

The Regional District of Nanaimo will be hosting two Open houses this year.
Open House tours of the plants will be conducted at 10am, 11am, 12noon, and 1pm.

Every year the Wastewater Services Department hosts Open Houses for the public at the French Creek Pollution Control Centre and the Greater Nanaimo Pollution Control Centre.

The Open Houses have attracted community members young and old to participate in treatment plant tours and learn about important wastewater functions.

Open Houses include: regular tours of the facilities, informative posters, staff to answer questions or express concerns to, activity sheets for children (with prizes!), brochures and pamphlets to take home, refreshments and displays from other community organizations.

Organizations that have attended Wastewater Open Houses in the past include the Nanaimo Recycling Exchange, Green Communities, Georgia Strait Alliance, SYLVIS Environmental, and Vancouver Island University - Forest Resources Technology Program.
